Hiya,
I just wanted to know what they are like to work for and what is the training like? Do you have to do that role play thing? I'm really looking forward to starting work and my loan parent adviser suggested orange, But i have to admit i would dread having to stand up in front of everyone and talk
Thanks, Michelle x

Anyone? Even what call centre work is like would be a help.
Thanks in advance x0 -
Can't speak for Orange but I know plenty of people who have worked for T mobile. It was strict but OK. What they all were surprised at was how upset people got when something went wrong with their phones
. As for call centre work they used to be rotten to staff but they have cleaned up their act a fair bit as they lose to many staff. Go for it! The World come on.....0 -
You never know til you try it. I can only speak for O2, working there, and yes we do get people to do role plays occasionally but its like anything, the more you do the easier it gets.
Why don't you go for it and see how you fare.. call centres have got a bad reputation but they're not that bad once you learn how they work. They are very target driven though so make sure you think quite a bit about how you'd feel about that.OU Student! - ED209, SDK125, DSE212, SK124, DSE141, SD226, DXR222, DD303, DD307 = BSc Psychology0 -
and remember, people who call you are in need of help - we all lose a phone, forget a password, mispace a ticket. at the end of the day the only time people call you is when they have a problem. it can be hard but we've all been on either end of the phone remember
I am not a financial advisor. Anything I post is basically just random stuff from my head. Digest it as you will. Being free of debt is good. Banks control us through debt. Caveat Emptor. Ignore anything I say. Oh and don't copy it either. Cheers. I'll have a Guinness extra cold.0 -

even though you might think that problem is not a problem in the real world :rotfl: sorry!! We have had customers ringing up demanding a penny credit before now!!OU Student! - ED209, SDK125, DSE212, SK124, DSE141, SD226, DXR222, DD303, DD307 = BSc Psychology0 -
I used to work for Sonyericsson and Vodafone was in the same building.
You will be given 2-4 weeks training where you will meet new recruits who are also being trained.
If you haven't done typing tests before the interview, you will do them as part of training.
You will be trained in whatever section, for example, handsets and the generic functions and then you will be required to answer calls from a variety of different customers.
You will be expected to use an online Diagnostics tool to diagnose the problem and give them answers accordingly.
You will be 'monitored' for customer services quality and marked on various things.
You will need to be able to spell decently, type decently and have a nice telephone manner.
It is all good fun.
It is informal, but formal too.
I have worked in many call centres and this is what you would expect.
I never had to do role play in the same room as anybody. Worst part was standing up and having to write on a big white board about my life and what I had been doing up to getting the job,. Was over in a minute and we were all equally as embarrassed!:cool:0 -

Thanks again, xx0 -
I used to work in a call centre and train people! Roleplay isn't so bad, you feel more embarrassed then anyone things you are daft, plus if can be a laugh! If you think of it as giving the stuff they are telling you a try before doing it for real- like driving practise test before the test I am sure you'll pass with flying colours.
It is always nerve wracking going into a new situation and everyone is in the same boat. Some people are just better at hiding it that is all.
Good luck and enjoy it!!!Green and minimal chemicals is the new black- I know a fair old bit about sustainability, specially energy and transport stuff. If I can help- please ask!0 -
I hope call centres have improved, I lasted two days in a call centre, the final straw was being tapped on the shoulder and being told "I could go to the toilet now" Well I am so sorry Mr Line Manager I go when my bladder dictates.0
