Hiya, I am just the playworker. They havent recruited the playleader yet. I have registered on the nursery nurses forum and will take a look at those links. Its quite daunting really, but I suppose I can take guidance from the playleader too.

You'll be fine as 'just' a playworker - just be yourself. Kids like people who like kids and as long as you're fair they are happy.

Mostly I do 'crafty' type things, because that's what I like doing, and the kids join in, it doesn't need to be something with an end result even, and we talk a lot. about all sorts of things, just like with my own kids after school ( teenagers now, so they don't talk at all!)
So just try to do things you like doing.

Your play leader should be able to fill you in on the rules and regulations, and other than that a lot of it is common sense, trying new things and having fun. If you need to know anything specific I'll try and help. you can always PM me.

don't know if you're a mum, but it's worth developing the tone of voice used by teachers, basically lower pitch slighly and speak as if you expect to be obeyed, and that is that.

Sorry to bump this but just wondered if there are any play workers around? I ended up starting this job at the beginning of Jan as there were problems getting the club up and running.

I was just wondering how people manage to do crafts on a little or no budget and also how you manage your time, eg kids leaving at different times.

We've done things using recycled bottles, making rockets, collage (using Argos books lol)

Also, what snacks do you provide?

Anyone know of an active play workers forum?
