I've been Money Tipped!
I have adopted two bantam chicks but want to try and find a 'mother' for them, they are only a week old. Some have suggested on here and other forums that they may be better off with an older hen around.

Where can i find point of lay hens or defunct ex-bat hens?

Transport is limited so not too far out.

Thans for any help or pointers

My Mum has some ex-battery hens and had to go to Gordano motorway services to pick them up. I think that is the "local" drop-off for this area. She says she wouldn't recommend them to be put in with tiny chicks as they get very territorial after coming out of small pens - they spend the first few weeks literally sorting out the pecking order and small, weak birds get picked on!

My SIL buys in batches of day-old chicks, but they are kept in a heated pen until they are big enough to go free-range (but she has barns and acres so probably a whole different ballgame!)

Dad kept bantams many years ago - but they flew away!

On the whole, I'm not being helpful at all :o.
"Cheap", "Fast", "Right" -- pick two.
