Good but cheap wines?

I have heard Aldi do good wines, so can anyone suggest good but cheap (say under £4?) bottles of wine at Aldi, Lidl or any of the big supermarkets?
White/Red/Rose, I drink them all!!
Thank you!:D

I know I'll probably get mocked for it but hey, I like it - at Asda they have a white (I dont know if it comes in any other colours, I mainly drink white) called Hidden Vineyards, which has recently been relabeled as a "Smart Price" wine, which I find actually quite tasty and I prefer it to most wines you find in pubs, and the last time I bought it (about 3 months ago) it was roughly £2 a bottle!
edit: it's now £2.13 a bottle, I've just looked, and they do it in red too, but I can't vouch for that one..
so if you aren't too fussy over wines, then I'd suggest giving that a try!

Aldi - St Jean, around £3 per bottle, it's gorgeous.
They must have improved the Asda one (Hidden Vineyards), when I last tried it I thought it should have stayed hidden, it was awful.
I think the Asda Seven Hills one is okay?
If you buy in larger quantities, lots of stores have fairly good wine on 3 for £10 etc.0 -
I'm not going to suggest a brand specifically, but I find that if I go for bottles which have huge reductions they tend to be better than going for ones that are cheaper to start with. When I say huge I mean ones that are half price for example, I know Sainsbury's often have half price bottles but I assume this would be the case in other supermarkets too...Finally bought a homeStarting mortgage £289,500 31.01.19 - Current outstanding £181,991.57Overpayments since 27.03.19: £59,482.47Moving fund so far £4500 - Premium bonds £4,0000

I buy wines by the box now.
The two i can recomend are both found in tesco's
1) French red table wine. The only down (or goodside) side is that it goes off after 2-3weeks of being opened. £10 for 3 litres -(4 bottles)
2) White italain pinot ?griecio? £14 for 3 litres -(4 bottles). very good.
hope this helps.:money: Thankyou, thankyou, thankyou to everyone who has helped.0 -
Asda often have their 3 for £10 offer on and some of the wines available when its on are £8 a bottle normally You'd do very well indeed if you you got decent wine at that price even in aldi. I'd be tempted to keep an eye out for these kinds of offers at the big stores.
Having said that when I was a skint student we used to drink "The Baron" (or something like that) which was an ok red. Probably best to drink it with cheese though!0 -
Thanks all, any more please do keep them coming! Adanem, what colour is it? I don't often get to Aldi but will make a note for when I do go so thank you!
Will try the 3 for £10 offers in supermarkets too, that's a good idea. I used to do that but found it was pot luck if I liked them or not. Just wish I was either a) less of a wine snob and could drink anything or b) actually knew my wines so I could buy the right thing in the first place!! :rolleyes:0 -
Asda do a really nice Chilean Sauvignon Blanc, it's around £2.50 or so.
In Tesco there is less choice, I usually buy Soave.0 -
Hi, the Aldi wine comes in Red or White, possibly Rose?0

Personally, I don't think Asda offer the best wine deals. Their 3 for £10 offer is ok when that comes around, but I think the other supermarkets offer a better quality of 'reduced' wine on the whole.John
