Probably a silly question about direct debits`

Hi all,
I was just wondering if there is any bank which lets a bankrupt have direct debits or standing orders coming out of the account. My bank have taken 8 weeks to realise I'm bankrupt (despite me telling them on the day) and have terminated the direct debit and standing order facilities. If it's the case that I can;t have them, looks like my OH is going to have to sort out a new account....

Cheers

Hi december, Co-op cashminder or the Barclays basic account both allow DDs. Co-op is the better of the 2 becuase you get a Visa Electron card and online banking, with the Barclays accout you just get an ATM card and telephone banking.

Ooh brill! I was in all of a panic as my normal OR wasn't in the office and I got a stroppy one who told me my account had been frozen as they thought it was savings and that I couldn't ever have direct debits so I was like this:( and panicking about how I could pay my bills. The OR in question asked me why I even needed direct debits, obviously to pay my household bills was not a good enough answer....d'oh! I shall head down to town today to try and open a Cashminder then and hope that the OR won't mind too much as apparently as I mentioned that my salary was being paid into my OH:s account as an interim measure, that means I don't need an account of my own......

Thanks ever so much for the replies :)

Edited to add- things were going ok thanks dalip until the grumpy OR put me into a tizz :) How are things with you?

I've moved my Natwest ones to Co-op really easily, I'd recommend going with Co-op, opening and account with them and receiving the card etc was so fast. Under 5 days for me from phoning to having everything!

I can vouch for the Coop Cashminder account too! Absolutely brilliant from the word go. Fast mail out of card etc and the online banking is simple. All my DD and STOs are set up and have been working like a dream since a week before my BR. Oh and the staff are great on the phone too!!!

All in 7 days. Well pleased.:D :T Hip Hip for the Co-Op!!:T

............. still waiting for a reply on Barclays because you can only apply by post. I don't owe them but they closed my old current account anyway. Not bothered whether they say yes or no now!!!
