things are looking up, they phoned us today and apologised profusely explained about the 'restructuring' they have gone through but the cheque shouldn't have bounced, they are sending us the money today that they owe us and another £25 for inconvenience

It wasn't really a matter of holding onto "client moneys". I believe the arrangement will have been a £195 broker fee . . . and a separate agreement to effectively rebate some of the procuration fee post completion.
