York - cheap things to do

Hi

I am going to York on saturday and looking for something to do that is free or cheap, for 2 adults and children aged 13 and 7.

We do have a car so it can be city centre or outskirts.

Any suggestions welcome

Walk around the city walls or picnic in the museum gardens - treat them to an ice cream if the weathers nice. They often have things going on over the summer hols, just google

GHOST WALK! tones of fun and quite cheap. go for the least gimicky one any you'll have more fun. avoid the guys in make-up that get dressed up. too cheezy

check out gift-tours.com, there is a very nice tour to york, including the train museum and so on...

A word of warning. York is very busy on Saturday. Traffic will be congested. There are few places to park in the city centre unless you get there very early. My advice is to use Park and Ride services or public transport if you're quite local and feeling brave!;)

Just so you know, Ebor race meet 19-22 August. Don't go near York if you can help it!:eek:
