Honiton area - ideas please
Options
Hi,
We are coming to Honiton area next month for a holiday (2 adults, 3 children - aged 5,6 and 6 mnths). Can anyone tell me some inside tips on places to go. The kids will love the beach, but we also like anything outdoors (great country parks, forests etc). Tips for beaches, parking etc would be welcome.
Also, anyone who lives in the area who would be able to post up some tourist type leaflets on the above (would be willing to send an SAE) would be much appreciated.
Thanks in advance

Hi Mumto3!
We live in Exeter and often go to Escot Park - http://www.escot-devon.co.uk/
It is a really nice park with a few animals (otters, birds of prey) and landscaped woods, unusual and good quality, if you know what I mean, with a nice proper cafe - not the usual plastic chairs and burgers. I sound like a snob - I'm not a big fan of ball pools and the like...!0 -
Hiya Mumto2

ok these are the places we visited:
nice day: Lyme Regis, about 30 minutes in the car - fossil hunting on the beach (we didn't find any but had a lovely day paddling in the rock pools looking at the bugs) http://www.jurassiccoast.com
rainy day: Plymouth Aquarium, about 1hr 20mins away (we put a DVD on in the car for the boys to watch on the way) - used Tesco clubcard vouchers to get in, really wonderful day out - my boys especially loved the sharks and starfish http://www.national-aquarium.co.uk
as mentioned earlier, the Donkey Sanctuary - really lovely time there, my boys really enjoyed themselves, entrance free http://www.thedonkeysanctuary.org.uk/site/1/Home.html
Crealy Park - don't go expecting "Alton Towers" and you'll have a lovely day (take a change of clothes for the log flume ride though :rotfl: ) http://www.crealy.co.uk/devon/
Fleet Air Arm Museum, about 40 minutes away, used Tesco Vouchers for entrance. My boys (and husband  ) had an amazing day here - they loved the "Aircraft Carrier Experience" and they have a real full sized concorde inside for you to explore http://www.fleetairarm.com/
We allowed a day to explore Honiton - a little disappointed,a few antique shops, a couple of toy shops and your usual woolworths, wh smiths, boots etc, really doen't take a couple of hours to get through http://www.honiton.com
We printed out directions to each place before we went away and kept them in the car (I still don't trust my sat-nav).
Hope you have a lovely holiday!

Hi there Mum to 2
There's not a huge amount to do in Honiton but if you are around between 1st - 8th August you could try the Sidmouth folk festival http://www.sidmouthfolkweek.co.uk/
There is lots to do for free, kids will love it and it's a lovely atmosphere. Lots of street entertainers and performances all over the place (don't bother with the ticket performances. There is a regular bus service from Honiton. Leave the car in Honiton, parking will be a nightmare.
Otherwise, Escot if good but not if it rains. Crealy is ok but can be quite expensive even to get kids in.
Exeter has a lot going on over the summer
Enjoy your hols0 -
Agree with Taffoire's post about the best places, I lived in the area for years.
Just as an aside, kids love the fossil hunting so if you go to Lyme Regis, drive 10 minutes on to Charmouth, there is a lovely little fossil 'museum' on the beach there which is free (dont worry its very hands-on, not a museum at all) and they run little fossil-hunting trips on to the beach for kids and families and will guarantee finding a fossil with you!0
