http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio2/musicclub/event_donblack.shtml

Concert takes place Sunday 17 August

A host of stars join the Royal Philarmonic Orchestra to celebrate the work of multi-award-winning lyricist Don Black.

Oscar winner Black's credits are prolific. Not only has he collaborated with Andrew Lloyd Webber on many of his musicals, he also penned the title track to the 1966 film Born Free, several Bond movies including Thunderball and Diamonds Are Forever, and the Michael Jackson track, Ben.

The concert will be staged at the London Palladium, where Black held his first job. His duties were to polish the brass handrails and to act as an usher. Unfortunately, he was fired three weeks later as he would sneak off to watch the performers!

Artists appearing include Gary Barlow, Craig David, Mica Paris, Elkie Brooks, Joe Longthorne, David Arnold, the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and stars of musical theatre including Marti Webb, Maria Friedman, Lee Mead, Ryan Molloy (Jersey Boys) and Matt Rawle (star of the new West End musical, Zorro).

The evening is hosted by Michael Parkinson and will remember the great musicals, movie themes and hit songs which followed, including Sunset Boulevard, Aspects Of Love, Tell Me On A Sunday, To Sir With Love and The Italian Job.
