I've been trying out the flaky bar recipe (found it on the monthly grocery list) and while it is really tasty mine has turned out very crumbly. Can anyone tell me where I have gone wrong?
Thanks

Thanks angelnicki - love the avatar btw
I'd suggest that there should be some syrup in that recipeTry adding a Tbsp or 2 next time.

When you put the mixture in the tin it may be that you are not pressing it down enough. I used to find that my flapjack was very crumbly. Then I noticed someones suggestion to cover the tray with clingfilm and press down with your hands to squash it all together. It works really well for flapjack so I would assume it may work with the flaky bars recipe too.I like to live in cloud cuckoo land :hello:0

Going to try them again later. Will put in a little syrup and pat them down harder this time. Will let you know how I get on.

Hi Kate
Not sure what adding syrup to the mix would do, might be worth a try, or maybe an extra ounce of marg. Even though there's no actual liquid in this recipe such as water, there is moisture in the margarine and some flour holds more or less moisture than others (even of the same type). This recipe was one I typed up for my mum about 40 odd years ago, but I seem to remember the bars were a bit crumbly, but not so much that they fell to bits when you picked one up. HTH.
