last year i started buying horse carrots by the sack, and they varied from £2.20 TO £2.80 per sack which was a huge saving for us...
this year i was thinking of doing the same with sacks of onions...as we do use quite alot of onions, and i missed out on planting some in the garden..
so i was just wondering, does anyone know when is the cheapest time to buy onions by the net full? and how much do they normally sell for ?
i have been buying the tesco value onions which i think are 2kg but the price of them have been creeping up, i think a few years ago they were only 68p, then they went up to 78p.. and now i think they are 89p:eek:
at the mo there are no horse carrots around, and the sacks are around the £6 mark.... so another few weeks, and hopefully the horse carrots will be back..too..

Onions are "in season" in the autumn, once they have ripened in the sun during August / September
So if you want them to keep buy this years crop and not last years refrigerated
My guess would be cheapest time would then, or spring when they are starting to go over, and the suppliers are trying to off load them as they will not keep too longGardener’s pest is chef’s escargot0 -
What are "horse carrots", and where can you buy them from?0
