Next Online Sale - problem placing order ?

Apologies in advance if this is in the wrong place... :-)
Did anyone else have problems placing an order on the Next website yeterday for sale items, paying by debit card rather than using a Next account ?
I tried to place an order 3 times yesterday morning, paying by RBS Solo card - I managed to get to an order confirmation page once, which I printed off. All three times, it took me to the RBS Secure page to enter additional security details, as I expected. My RBS Secure Receipt History shows details of 3 receipts by next.co.uk, with ID numbers.
No payments have come out of my bank account, and I have had no confirmation emails. Rang Next yesterday morning, and was told to ring back last night to check if order had gone through - they even refused to take another order off me over the phone. Rang again last night, to eventually be told that orders were ONLY being taken from people with existing or new Next accounts - if you tried to pay by card, your order would have failed. She then agreed to try and order the items again for me - all items were out of stock.
Have been offered an alternative item by way of compensation, but it doesn't make up for the 8 items that are on my order confirmation.
Would be interested to know if anyone else had this problem yesterday - surely they are not trading fairly if they are only allowing account holders to make purchases, but not stating it ?
