New Job & Br

I am currently not working and with our current I&E there is no surplus. If I get a job which brings in roughly £350 after childcare pcm would they take 50% of this? IN which case is it worth me finding a job? Can I lose £350 in our I&E? Don't know what to do. Feel i need to contribute again to household in these testing times but not if it is all taken off with br and childcare. Where is the benefit in that? (In England had mum to look after kids and had a fantastic job - no chance of that where we live now).

It does not depend on the amount you bring in, it depends on your overall I&E.

With working, some things will go up - like petrol or public transport costs, clothing as you need work clothes etc. What happens with tax credit? Will that go up or
down? (Check https://www.entitledto.co.uk or the HMRC website as that can actually give a better indication).

Find out altogether what you will be entitled to, your income (less tax etc deductions) and do an I&E for your family just to see. I don't think your expenses could be increased by that much though.

Then you can decide if its worth going back right now or waiting until discharge.

    Hi,

I agree with skylight on how this may affect you. It is a sad part of the system that encourages br's not to gain work whilst undischarged, but that is exactly what it does.

I was thinking that as i am currently part-time but thought i may as well stay that way until after discharge.

A job brings new expenditure. You need to weigh it all up

Thanks all - i suspect that if i get a part time job and have to pay tax & childcare it is not going to justify the meager amount i will bring home if 50% goes to debtors, which I think it will. I will keep looking for a job or, alternatively, try and come up with a fabulous self employed way of making a million! Any ideas?;)
