Morning all, can't believe I've done this but found a receipe for spiced Pumpkin Tart with Ginger Cream, bought all the ingredients and then found out that Pumpkins don't even start growing til September LOL. Can't wait that long so am relying on you lovely people to give me an alternative I can use. Thank you for our help as always

well you can buy canned pumpkin (i'm sure i've seen i somewhere) but the alternative i'd suggest is butternut squash, comes out quite sweet once roasted so i'm sure would be good for pieNonny mouse and Proud!!

Waitrose has Libby's tinned pumpkin. We always keep a few tins on hand, as we like to make pumpkin bread, pumpkin pie, and I'm eyeing a recipe for pumpkin cheesecake that looks good.MSE mum of DS(7), and DS(4) (and 2 adult DCs as well!)DFW Long haul supporters No 210:snow_grin Christmas 2013 is coming soon!!! :xmastree:0

Marrow or overgrown courgette might work- remove the seedy middle and just use the firm outer flesh but not the skin - or you could try summer squashes which are just making an appearance in Farmers' Markets and possibly some shops.0

You could also try using sweet potato, it tends to contain a bit more water than pumpkin though, so I'd reduce the liquid in the recipe.2015 comp wins - £370.25

Thanks to everyone who posts freebies and comps! :j0 -
My first thought was butternut squash as well. The acquisition of wealth is no longer the driving force in my life.0

Another vote for butternut squash here - in fact, I'd be more likely to use that than the original pumpkin.0
