Defaulted credit card - but account still active?!

Hi...I was wondering if someone could help me out...
I got into a bit of a mess end of 2005/2006 - fell out with parents, they kicked me out, was a student at the time working part time so suddenly found myself totally skint with paying rent etc...anyway I was used to living at home and having lots of free cash so had quite a bit of debt on the credit cards (about £8k - oops!
), so when I suddenly had to pay all these bills myself it meant I had no money to pay my credit cards...
I ended up defaulting on all of them. However, I have now finished uni and am working full time...trying to clear up my credit files. I noticed on my credit file that one credit card (Capital One) however is not reporting as defaulted. It shows the following:
Recorded at:xxxxxxx
Account holder name:xxxxxxx
Date of birth:xxxxxxx
Company type:Finance House
Account type:Credit Card
Last updated:19th September 2005
Current balance:£0.00
Credit limit:£750.00
Opening balance:£0.00
Account start date:12th February 2004
Regular payment amount:Not Applicable
Number of repayments:Not Applicable
Repayment frequency:
MonthlyWorst Status:1 payment late
I no longer have the card as I cut them all up, and no longer receive statements or that...but I was thinking of writing to them and explaining my situation as to how I got in such a mess, and ask if they would allow me to repay the balance and start again with them? I'm worried if I write to them and they realise they forgot to put a default on my account they'll just put it on over 2 years later meaning i'll have to wait even longer for all the defaults to drop off!
Oh and one more thing...the current balance is not £0 - it's more like £800 or something!
Thanks for any help!
