Snacking.

Ok. So I am trying to lose weight but I have a terrible habit for snacking. Most of the time I don't realise that I have snacked. Sometimes I think "ooooooh its only 1 bag of crisps (these are my biggest problem) So I need help to cut out/stop the snacking. Any suggestions anyone?

xx Lisa

Instead of crisps you could buy rice/oat cakes and have them instead  . Then snaking at least would not be as bad. Snaking isn't exactly bad though it's more what it is/how many calories/how much fat is in it. Fruit and veg may be even better.

Eating smaller meals may be better more frequently:confused: . They say that 6 small meals a day every 3-4 hours is better than 3 main meals after all. I can't help you very much I'm afraid :o . Hopefully someone else will have more advise.

I have a cup of green or white tea or rooibos when I feel like snacking. I find that it takes away my hunger and it's also good for you as it will count towards your water intake. If I really need to eat, I have a banana, or an apple with a slice of cheese. I love crisps too, but don't have them in the house - I can demolish a big pack of crisps or nuts on my own. Safest not to keep them in if you can manage it.

grapes are good.. quite high in sugar so they take the edge off sugar type cravings.. don't eat too many though or you will get tummy ache!

Jelly to snack on is healthy.. sugar free varieties.. :)

Carrots sticks.. sounds boring, but just something ready to eat is nice.. and they are tasty raw.. :)

    sugar free mints/chewing gum etc

Good luck, I am a serial snacker aswell.. I just cannot make it from one meal to the next without shoving food into my pie hole!

  • Lost my bl00dy reply!

The long and short of it is - I think I need to eat more smaller meals in the day, Maybe not 6 tho as I'd be in the kitchen all day lol.

I seriously think I have a crisp addiction. Even tho I like fruit it doesn't compare to crisps so I think I will have to see about not having them in the house.

    Thanks everyone for your advice

To be honest I think there are things you have to go cold turkey on. I'm off chocolate and wine now. The same as before, once I'd been off for a week I barely noticed but the first week was a bit tricky admittedly :o I know they say a little of what you fancy but it doesn't work like that for me. Eating chocolate leads to eating more chocolate, drinking wine leads to eating more than is good for me. And neither of them are doing me any good at all.

The other thing that helps is to think about food as fuel and think about what it's doing to your body. A friend was recently diagnosed with diabetes and it really did make me stop and think about what I was putting into my body. I'd also been feeling very down and I know this was directly related to too much sugary intake. Now I've cut way back my moods have stabilised a lot and I'm starting to have more energy. I'm trying to make a point of noticing the good changes to reinforce the good habits. And I am definitely not buying nutella :)

    I'd say bin the crisps...

Try having a drink instead? You might sometimes need a drink instead of food.

Don't buy the snacks in the first place - if they're not in the house you can't eat them (assuming you are doing the snacking at home!).

Although I understand what your saying its not that simple. There are other people in our household.

Its not just crisps, I'ts snacking in general I am asking about. Pointers that change your mind from thinking you fancy a snack to being able to have balanced meals instead and that be enough....

Do what i did and keep a diary of what you are eating and when. After a few days you should see enough to stop you in your tracks when you go to take a bite of something. I dont know but for me if Im AWARE of what Ive eaten so far that day Im less likely to pick up a snack no matter how much i convince myself Im dying of starvation.

If I do have to snakc then its a fat free yoghurt with a handful of breakfast museli mixed in to give it a bit of bite and substance
