how to change name on tenancy?

Hello, any mse's know the answer to this one.

me, my OH and two kids are currently living with my parents and have been on the council waiting list for two years (never been offered a house.) The house we live in is a council house.

The thing is, is that my mum now wants to move to another area and to a smaller house, how do i go about changing the tenancy agreement for this house into my name so me and my family can stay here and come of the council waiting list.

I tried speaking to my local council but i don't have a spare 2 hours to sit on hold and i can only assume that they have not bothered replying to the e-mail i sent about a month ago.

Please help so we can finally have a home to ourselves.

Well where i live you can pass your house down once, the person your handing over to has to have lived with you for 12 months, but they would not re-house the original tenant though! This is in my area and not sure if this would be every council. Hope this helps a little!

thanks, thats what i would have thought but when i eventually got through to the council (albeit it someone who was not all that bright) just abruptly and rather condasendidly said that their maybe some one more needy than me. But the way i see it is, if they do not let me stay they will have to put us in a hostel (£20pn) rehouse us and give us a decorating grant, so all in all it would cost them a lot less just to let us stay here.

I have checked our area and you can pass the house down once but only if the original tenant dies.
