Identity Theft

I have had a copy of my Tax Coding sent to Me from HMRC. But it was previously sent to another address That I Have Never lived at and the person that lives there is dubious to say the least. What can I do to see if this person has now stolen my Identity? How did the HMRC get that address? Now that person Has my Tax Code Tax Details which have changed to my original Referenc Number and they also have my NI number What should I DO?

Although I agree with other posters that you're being a little bit paranoid, if Identity theft worries you that much perhaps you could register with CIFAS?
http://www.cifas.org.uk/default.asp?edit_id=808-85
It costs £14 a year and means that any application you make for finance will be subject to further checks (which can include a password set up by yourself). It's a good way to put your mind at rest.0 -
id theft is as easy as bin diving , so op inst that paranoid. One named credit card application that comes as junk mail out the bin and its free money , old bills , and bobs you aunties significant other.
Does anyone put their bins out on the street the night before collection?
does anyone have a name on a store pc on the high street , british gas , electric company?
theres a fine line between paranoid and protection....then theres it will never happen to me.Have you tried turning it off and on again?0 -
