Getting rid of callers ?

Hi, not sure that this is the right forum, but couldn't think of another category where there may be people to ask.

Over the last 22 days I've had 22 + phone calls from a call centre (who I tricked this morning in to telling me was Aktiv Kapital) looking for someone. Everytime I've answered I've explained that I am not the person they are looking for, it is my business number etc and ask to be removed from their system. Needless to say, the next day, another call.

Is there a simple legal warning I can give (or actually issue) to stop this ?

Didn't want to read and run. There are letters you can send about harrassment. Not technically capable - but someone will be along shortly who is!

Do you know which country Aktiv Kapital called from ? Thats really needed so you can find the right legislation to use i.e. uk law isnt going to help if they are calling from india for example. If it was a residential number I would go for the 'One moment I'll just go get them' reply and leave the phone of the hook till they ring off. Given a few of these they usually stop calling but that may not be practical if you get a lot of valid business calls

Its infuriating isnt it! I got about 25 in one week from one creditor and plenty from the others!
I waited until they rang again and said "I appreciate you have a job but I have a legal right to ask you to correspond purely by post from now on" and 95% said "Oh um, of course, yes, we'll take you off autodialler and note on your account that its mail only". Not sure if they are legally bound to stop calling but legally I can ask anything I like lol. The few stubborn ones have stopped after letters and I've one left whom I'm writing to again today.

I am sure you can report them to the OFT, Trading standards etc. When they phone inform them all correspondence is to be in writing etc. Write to them and tell them you are not the person and quote the relevant law (I'm sure someone will give you the sample letter later ) and tell them if they phone again you will report them for harrasment.
Maybe pm RAS? I think he is pretty well up on this stuff and will be able to show you where the sample letters are.

Maybe a stern email about wasting your time and charging them for it?

Afraid don't know of any legal way though.

I always pretend I am not the owner of the house, and tell my mom will be back later, I can get away with it, I only sound about 10 on the phone all though nearly 4 times that really.

Thanks for the advice folks - I think the demand that they write in future would be the best route as their missing creditor doesn't live in my office.

As an iteresting side note - they don't withold there telephone number, it's quite clearly 01244 -xxxxxxxx on my caller display, so I know when they call. I had fun with the young lady this morning by answering the phone: "Good morning, Aktiv Kapital, keith speaking, how can I help you ?"

That put her in a bit of a fluster !!!!
