As an alternative to tampons I've started using a mooncup. It cost about £20 you can get them from boots or the website. Totally reusable and much cleaner than you'd imagin. You can read all about it on the website.
For me I made back the initial outlay in 4 months and so is now saving me around £5 a month.
Much better for the environment, much better for your pocket and in my humble non medical opinion is also better for your health.
Plus no risk of TSS.
