Dvd released only as region 1 and I have region 2 dvd player

I am trying to buy a film on dvd that was released in 1989. However, it is only released as a region 1 dvd. My dvd player is only region 2.
So is there anyway way I can buy this dvd and have it made into a region 1 dvd? I am expecting the answer to be no as there will still be problems with encryption and I suscept this is also illegal.
The other option is to buy the video and somehow get this copied to dvd. As I do not have a video I would also need to get someone to do this for me.
Any ideas?

can you not make your dvd player region free using a hack(i.e. what make and model is your player?), or buy a cheap generic multi region player to take advantage of future releases you may only get on R1?0

You can convert dvd region 1 so that they will pay on your dvd however it would be illegal to do so and unfortunately we cant discuss on the forums how to do this. Failing that you could buy a cheap dvd player (check before buying that will play all regions and or region hack usually via remote control), most cheapo players will do this for around £20-£30.
For what its worth I am totally against region dvd's as I believe its against the consumers best interest, but that's another matter.0 -
Most modern p.c's will let you watch multi region dvd's on them. I know mine does.0

The dvd player we have is new and only just been bought as our old one conked out. I do not want to buy another one for even at £30 it is still a waste of resources to buy a 2nd dvd player.
Do not want to get it chipped and there is no hack for our machine as we have already checked.
Poppycat, I agree that the multi region thing is very annoying. All I want to do is buy this film. We have been trying to buy it for some time, but as it has not been released as region 2 we are stumped. It is ridicolous that I am probably not going to be able to buy this film in a legal way.
The only thing I can think off it to try and get hold of it on video and pay someone to copy it to dvd for us.

Quickest and easiest way is to hack your dvd player. Type your dvd model number into google with the words hack and see what comes up.
Hacking your dvd player is not illegal.
Or tell us the name of the movie and i'll see if i can find a r2 version for you.0 -
There is no hack for our dvd we have already looked.
The film is called Hardware. It was a small budget film and it was released in 1989 and only had limited release in the U.K.
This is a synopsis from the film
*************
Violent, post-apocalyptic cult movie about Moses, a terminally ill scavenger, and Julie, his dope-smoking girlfriend. One day, while scouring the remains of civilization, Moses retrieves a collection of mysterious hardware. Unfortunately, the hardware turns out to be a robot programmed to kill human beings and it quickly takes over Julie's technology-intensive apartment

I was going to list the main cast, but there is no known names in it.
Yes, it a dodgy Sc-Fi movie, but well what can you do?
Thanks for the help.

Do you have a PC with a DVD-ROM drive?
OK so there is a hack for the dvd player, but I am required to have a PDA a onmi-remote control, two dead armadillos, a 1960's pink lamp shade, a Scimitar tank and male over the age of 70 born on Februray 29th. Now the tank and the armadillos I am sure I can source, but the pink lamp shade is going to be a sod to find.
Yes, I have a dvd-rom drive.0 -
It's certainly possible, but alas it's not quite as simple as merely flashing the drive's firmware; there's usually a software-based region checking system in addition to the hardware.irnbru wrote:You may have the option of flashing it to make it region free.
To deal with that, you'll likely need to use a software DVD player that doesn't implement region checking.0
