£18k in debt, DMP?

  • I there was only one that I made a token payment to as they send me a letter saying that if I didn't they would take me to court but even then, as they knew I was dealing with Payplan, I only paid them £10 as a token gesture.

Remember if you get any calls from any of your creditors don't take any rubbish off them. Keep telling them you can't pay any more and if they have an issue to deal with Payplan. Also if they keep phoning or writing to you just tell them that it can be taken as harrassment and that you will take it further if they continue.

One other thing to bear in mind is that you are dealing with your debts and not asking for any favours - you want to pay your debt and that is a good thing! :T

Good luck on the DMP, you really will feel like a weight has been lifted once it is all up and running.

If you do decide to give a token payment make sure it will be lower than what they are offered otherwise they could say that you can afford more. Most people choose to give a £1

Yeah I'm a bit worried for when the harrassment starts! I just intend to stick to my guns and tell them to talk to payplan.

I used to worry about that too but just be really firm. They cannot harrass you as at the end of the day they have agreed to the payments.

They will try and get more money out of you but be polite and after a few calls just tell them they are harrassing you and if they do not stop you will be taking it further.

Good luck and if you have any questions this is the best place to be!!

Aww, wow. I've just found my old thread! I was thinking about starting a thread about how I'm getting on so I thought I would update this one instead. Well I finally got rid of the ex, lol, only lasted a couple more months before I threw him out, I couldn't take his financial strain and him laying about like a low life whinging about money rather than trying to help himself.

So I've had the DMP 2 years (thought it was longer) I've paid off approx £4k - will check figures. I also have a 2nd job which is full time but I get to work from home. The house is finally signed over to me - thats taken nearly 2 years. I have a new BF and all is well.

Gonna do my SOA to compare...

Thanks to you guys' help, I've done the DMP (which although was awful at first, lifted a weight off my shoulder), had my council tax band reduced with a nice refund (£400 & annual saving of approx £200pa), helped the (current) BF get his bank charges back (£800) and now I'm in the process of offering F&Fs (the light at the end of the tunnel). Oh and so far this year from Quidco I've had approx £500!

I'm also very lucky (apart from the circumstances) to have a large sum of inheritance money on its way, which is pushing me to clear my debt so I can have the money sat in my bank for once in my life.

I dont post very often as I am more of a reader but on here daily, I just wanted to say Thank you to everyone & Martin for your support and advice x
