Desperate! Can someone help organise me!

Can anyone help before I have a break down?
Changed my bank account to First Direct who advised that all direct debits had been transferred. To my horror, none of the payments went through to the appropriate organisations so now I am in arrears with my creditors!

Then, First Direct charged me for being a direct debit that was returned as unpaid.

So, I've got a huge bill in bank charges that the Bank will take as soon as my wages go into my account and in addition to that I've still got to catch up with arrears to all my creditors with which I am not going to be left with any money for food or petrol for the month.

The only solution I can see is to cancel all the direct debits and pay them on a set day of the month over the counter so that I know that everything is paid without any further charges. And then set up the direct debits again when in more control - mentally.

Any ideas? I'm getting desperate!

  • :grouphug: Hi May,

Have you spoken to the bank about the DD's not going through? Surely if it's an error on their part they should not give you any charges. Did they actually confirm that all the DD's were set up?

When I spoke with First Direct, they advised that they had notified all the relevant companies and even sent to me, a list of all the companies with the direct debits. I even asked them to send a revised copy just to clarify the list myself and the list of all the direct debits is correct, yet no-one seems to be taking their money.

I have suffered a break down in the past due to money problems and I really don't want to go through that all again.

Why is the bank charging you? Do you mean your direct debits were requested from your original bank account and because you had your money in your other account the original one bounced them and is now charging you?

If this is the case you need to take it up with each indidual company that did this. It is they that have requested the money from the wrong place and you should not be charged for any arrears. Also demand compensation for the bank charges. You should also find out why the original direct debits were not cancelled when they were moved.

If this isn't the case please let us know.
    Regards
