Court On Friday

Hi guys
Not been on for a while,Taking the plunge with Bankruptcy tommorow i am in court in the morning.
I was just wondering what i need to take with me and what to expect in general ?

I should have done this 2 years ago when my business started going t1ts up but i have had my head in the sand avoiding everyone and just basically being depressed and miserable and totaly unmotivated (which i still am)

Couple of questions

will i see the Or and do i need to take any accounts or will they ask what they want to see ?
Does it matter how i dress as long as i am resanably smart ?
I am unemplyed at the moment :o and i signed on today, my money is due for tuesday into my bank account (no debt with them or overdraft its a basic yorkshire bank account with a maestro card)
will this be closed straight away as i cant afford to lose my money ?
what do i need to take with me to prove i am on job seekers as i only have the money for the discounted fee's ?

Can someone confirm how much it is ?

Not looking foward to this

thanks
Bdb

    HI Bigdebtboy,
Sounds pretty much like me! I owned my own buisness now iam demotivated..!
I went to court yesterday and couldnt believe how easy and simple it is (was for me)
Basically you need your BR petition, the form to claim your £150 back as yr unemployed, letter from yr benefits office to show yr unemployed and i got asked for 3 months bank statements.
I dressed smart (shirt and pants)
    I paid £345
I wouldnt worry its not painfull i was there for 1hr 15 mins and 45 mins of that was spent in waiting room, less than 2 mins with judge rest of time was checking my petition with receptionist and on fone to OR.
    Overall painless.
Cant comment on how soon bank account stops open, i checked mine today on line and its still there!
Dont worry you will walk out feeling better !

    Hi BDB,

Here is my story from less than a month ago that might help: http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=1012833

All you need for court is 3 copies of you partition. You will need a form if you are going to try and claim back you court cost but dont forget you main BR money.

A book might be a good idea as there can be a bit of waiting around.

I took along account but then again if i could have taken the kitchen sink i would have put it in the car. You wont need any of this. The OR will usually call within 48hrs and they will ask you send anything that need.

I went smart casual and that seemed to be the same as everyone else.

I wouls take along anything you have to prove you dont need to pay the court fee's especially as like you say you only have the money for the OR payment.

As for the bank i have to be honest and say when you get home call Co-op and get a cashminder account if nothing other than for backup. When you have your OR interview make sure you tell them that your Jobseekers is going in and they will ask the bank to realease this for you but it wont all happen in one day i have only this week nearly 4 weeks since being made BR got a letter from my old bank.

If you get the discount the BR fee is £345 but if you dont you will need £495.

Good luck but im sure you will be fine and feel very light when you leave that court.

I was just wondering what i need to take with me and what to expect in general ? You just need your fees, 3 copies of your petition, a drink, a snack and something to read. I f you look through the forum over the last couple pages there are a few people who have been to court over the last week. Have a read.

You usually get your petition granted then speak to the OR on the phone at the court or after you get home to confirm some details. You will then get an appointment through for either a face to face or a phone interview.
Does it matter how i dress as long as i am resanably smart ? Dress how you are comfortable.
I am unemplyed at the moment :o and i signed on today, my money is due for tuesday into my bank account (no debt with them or overdraft its a basic yorkshire bank account with a maestro card)
will this be closed straight away as i cant afford to lose my money ? Take all your money out before you go BR and then once you are BR open a Co-op Cashminder account.
what do i need to take with me to prove i am on job seekers as i only have the money for the discounted fee's ? Aletter from them dated within the last month.with your details on. If you do not have this then you will have to pay full fee and claim back later or cancel and re-book when you have the paperwork.

Can someone confirm how much it is ? £345 OR fees and £150 court fee.

Not looking foward to this  You will be fine. Everyone is very professional and courteous.

    thanks

    Hope that helps

Can I ask who advised you on going BR.

They won't give you the remission with out proof of benefit..This will give you all the details on remission

    Appliation form

You could ring the court and ask if they will do the copies for you.

The account will be closed because generally the only 2 BR friendly banks are Co-op with their Cashminder account and Barclays Cash account. The cashminder is the better account.

Try and get a letter from your jobcentre first thing before you go because you will be sent away otherwise. I know it seems mean but they are so strict on paperwork for auditing purposes. You may be lucky and they may let you take your proof in later that day but its unlikely x x

All the best for tomorrow. I hope it goes well. Do as Penguin suggests and try and get something from Job Centre.

The letter is out of date so you may have trouble getting the court to accept it - it can be no older than 1 month from the date you apply for remission - it all depends on how strict your court is xx

    Hope all goes well
