Tax on Online Income

Hi,

I was just wondering if anybody knew the issue on paying tax for income received online. I plan to join this website which requires a 45 pound deposit. And i do not mind paying that but do no want to get into a huge complicated mess with regards to tax. If it helps I am not employed and am a student starting university.

Thank you for your replies.

How will you earn the income?

How much would you expect to receive?

    What expenses would you have?

    Is the income taxable?

You need to provide a little more information, but as a rule, if you are receiving a taxable income from a trade that is not taxed at source, then you should inform HMRC within 3 months of starting the trade and register as self employed.

The income will be eanred through an online website and paid directly into my bank account.

On average about 400 pounds a month. So I dont think I will be exceeding my personal allowance.

No expenses as everything is done from home.

And I have no idea if its taxable sorry. Im only 18 so still learning the kinks of taxation.

what does the website do, are you selling? or is it just an income through advertising?

First of all thank you so much for replying.

In response to your question, the income is not through selling. In a nut shell, i will have to process and organise advert responses. The site is called Home Business Programmes https://homebusinessprogram.co.uk/ if that is of any help at all

I just want to know whether it would be worth it or not with regards to tax.

Have you checked out this website? Sites that ask for a deposit sometimes turn out to be scams.

I have done a bit of research and it seems to be legit so far. They offer a refund for the full deposit after a certain amount of ad responses.

Ok, then it is home based work.

You would have to register as self employed by contacting the Newly Self Employed helpline on 0845 915 4515.

You will complete a tax return at the end of the tax year where you will declare your income so that HMRC can calculate if you are due to pay any tax/NI on your income.

If you expect to earn less than your tax free amount then you will have no tax to pay. Also, you may not have to pay NI class 2 contributions if your income falls below the lower limit. For information on this speak to the NI office.
