Jolly Phonics

Hi,

I've been told that the school will be using Jolly Phonics to teach my 4 year old.

Problem is I have difficulty myself saying the different sounds correctly.

I have looked on the internet and saw these products for sale at the Early Learning Centre. They are:

(1) Jolly Phonics Dvd - £20.00

(2) Jolly Songs Book & Cd - £8.50

Will one of the above items actually pronounce each letter of the alphabet as it should be correctly? Of the 2, which is better or is there a more suitable product that I can buy. If so, where can I buy the product?

Thanks.

    Hi kawan2,

My youngest child is learning Jolly Phonics at school and we've found this website to be really useful. He feels grown up using the computer like his older brother and sister and is having so much fun that he doesn't realise that he's learning. Have a look at building a snowman or making a pumpkin to help him learn mouse control.

Bargainbabe - Thanks for the link.

Pink-winged - That looks like a really interesting site. Will let the little one try it out this weekend.

Thanks again to both of you.

When my eldest started school we were asked NOT to do any jolly phonics work at home until they brought home the worksheet. The teacher said that the children find it really good fun learning the actions and sounds in class but if they've already seen it and done it at home, they become bored in class.

My daughter would bring home one worksheet every week and there was an explanation on how to pronounce each sound and a diagram showing the actions. She had learnt the sound herself and was always really excited about showing me.

When she had learnt all the sounds it was up to parents to keep practising the sounds, this would be an excellent time to buy the books and use the websites.

There's been a thread about this before where lots of parents wanted their child to know how to do everything before they went to school. Mine's only a personal view but I agree with the teachers on this and I can see how one child could be bored silly while their 29 classmates are all learning something new together.
Just run, run and keep on running!
