Tesco's '10 items or less queue'

I was in the '10 items or less queue' at Tesco's the other day, now I don't get annoyed if people have say 15 items, but the shop was packed, even these queues had around 10 people at each one. When I looked at the front of the queue to see the hold up, there was a family carrying 5 shopping bags full of stuff and the bill totalling over £100. I hate it when this happens it really bugs me. So just want to let them know! surely the cashier can refuse to serve them if they have THAT much? After all if everyone did it.... Grrr!!

If you're ever in Tesco's and debating whether or not to go to that checkout with your whole weeks worth of shopping, make sure i'm not in the queue!

  • If the 10 items or less queue is empty often the operator will call people in the adjacent queues onto the 10 items or less till.

People starving to death in the third world and getting blown up in Iraq and in the UK we still find time for complaining about the trivial.

Maybe the 10 items till was empty and the cashier called the 5-bags people over to help alleviate the queues on the other tills?

I agree though, that people shouldn't just go to the 10 items queue with a trolley full of stuff.

I prefer to just use the self-scan tills, people seem afraid of them and there's always one empty.
They say it's genetic, they say he can't help it, they say you can catch it - but sometimes you're born with it

I'm not afraid of them....I just don't see why I should work as an unpaid checkout operator for Tesco. ;)

Well just go to a normal till then!

Those tills are there for people like me who will happily use them if it saves me time through avoiding queueing. If you'd prefer to wait in a queue because of some petty problem you have with the concept of them then that's up to you!

I love the self-scan checkouts. I do like to avoid the queues, but I also love the 'beep' when I scan things. (I need to get out more, wouldn't you agree, Tim?)

The only gripe I have with Tesco's self-scan checkouts is that when you take your own bags it confuses things terribly.

I prefer them as well, when I want to get in and out quickly.

What I hate is when you go to the normal line, you're not even done packing and they start scanning the things from the person behind you.

I agree! It always yells at me when I don't use their bags, so I have to put it in their bags then take it out to put it in my backpack.

I must admit I do use those self scan ones sometimes but only if I have very few items because they can be so frustrating!! (I normally only use them because theres nobody at them)

It is SO LOUD it hurts my ears with all the stupid instructions and then "unexpected item in bagging area" even when you just scanned it, and then it says to put the item in when you already put things in that have been scanned. Or good old "approval needed" for no reason

I know this isnt the main topic of the thread but I had to give my 2p on those blasted checkouts. For some reason the ASDA ones are great though, the Tesco ones seem to be set to "ultra sensitive"
