Some good advice, but soemthings I'd like to add.

Without identifying yourself, there is little anyone can do (especially call you back). I'd imagine a manager won't take a call without knowing what it is about first.

I said she should say that it is a regarding a complaint about someone she spoke to on a previous call. I have done this before and it works, nobody wants to have to discuss a complaint about a colleague.

I've never heard of a company training that, and if they did I'd be suprised if they managed to survive very long. However it is true that they will try to help you more if you are calm. If you insult/shout they'll just get their backs up and stick to their procedures. Be nice and they might bend them.

Yes ok they might not be specifically taught that they can do that, but it's what happens. The OP says she received highly impertinent comments like "we're all in the same boat love". This would have been a response to the OP raising her own voice.

Oh something nobody has mentioned so far: there are a couple of helplines you can call which might be able to give you advice too:

    Energywatch: 08459 060708
    National Debt Line: 0808 808 4000
    Consumer direct: 08454 040506

And you could also try your local citizens advice bureau too. One of these helplines should able to explain your rights and E.On's responsibilities, which you can use to get a decent payment plan set up.

you're paying too much. I pay £130 a month for a 4 bed victorian home, which is basically a chiller for four months a year. With regard to payment, you are offering to pay it off in installments, if they refuse and take you to court, the court would look on them unfavourably.

Try the above numbers, something isn't right here.
Remember the time he ate my goldfish? And you lied and said I never had goldfish. Then why did I have the bowl Bart? Why did I have the bowl?

The bill is high as the last bill was an estimate (I didn't realise this)

So have you provided them with an actual reading, so that the invoice can be recalculated?

  • I have rung energy watch about a problem ive had with e-on and they are fantastic...really helpful and the chap rang thru to them and spoke to them 1st explaining before he put me thru to them..
    hope this helps....
  • i currently pay £65 a month in a 3 bed terrace with 3 adults!:( thats with scottish power! i used to pay £30 a month with e-on but swapped to scottish power because they were cheaper! they're since put their prices up!:(
not sure what 2 do now is this high for just 3 people?

Mine was a similar amount on quarterly billing for gas and electric in a ground floor flat - and I thought I had been careful with usage too.

Unfortunately I am not in a position to go for direct debits yet and price sculpting really puts me off as they wanted £115 per month on direct debit for £60 monthly usage in spring. Gas is off except for the odd hour to dry out the flat. I am spending more on standing charges than for gas at the moment.
  • I had a similar problem with Scottish Gas when my fixed tariff came to an end a year or so ago. Because they have not read your meter for a lomng time the problem is partly theirs and they should be more amenable especially as you are looking for a solution. Another poster suggested ENERGYWATCH - contact them and they will act on your behalf, they did for me, by being ago between. i managed to get an amended monthly dd and a fixed amount to pay off the debt that I did not even know I had. There is always the possibilty that someone their side has made an error. I am sure that it what happened to me as within 12 mth my DD changed from £24 per month to £185 per month then to £85 and then to £55. They

Don't forget - use Energywatch, they are the watchdog and will act on your behalf, don't change to a meter the costs are too high! Best wishes

  • well i have just found out that our gas bill from £95 a month has gone up to £300 because the gay company has made an error since 2006 and we say we owe them over £2000. it is ridiculous.

well i have just found out that our gas bill from £95 a month has gone up to £300 because the gay company has made an error since 2006 and we say we owe them over £2000. it is ridiculous.

I thought you could only get back billed for 2 or 3 years and only one year if they made the error the reason i say this is one of our houses we rent out and at the time the meter reader hadent read it for 4 years long story short they said we owed 2 thousand for the gas and when we challenged them as we had been supply readings to scottish powers reader line they hadent been recording them so we proved this and the bill was wiped only paid £500 which was the last years gas use . the house we letted out included all bills ect incuding gas and electric we now let the tenents pick there own suppliers if they are long term tenents. fight them all the way if you have been suppling readings and they got it wrong they cant charge you the full amount only the last years im sure there is another post on here about back billing ect

    good luck
