Hello all,
A couple of weeks ago my mate's laptop died and lost everything. We had to re-install windows xp, download all microsoft updates and now there is no sound and it cannot find any wireless networks. It doesn't even have the option 'show wireless networks'. It connects to the internet via a cable (ethernet) to the router.
Any ideas?
thanks

Go to the Windows Update website via the link on the Start menu and do an update search. Choose Custom search. When it brings up a list on the left hand side select the Hardware link. Tick anything that is Sound and Network. Then download.
This may not work if it doesn't try the laptop makers website many provide the correct drivers for their own hardware.0 -

Sound was ok after i downloaded a driver but needed to restart laptop and sound was dead again.0 -
This is all the stuff in your friend's computer:

So that might help tracking some drivers down.
You turn the wireless on/off by pressing Fn + F10.
Don't they have the CDs that came with the computer? They should have all the drivers on them.0 -
My friend cannot find the CD that came with the computer and had a look at the pdf suggested above with not luck. Have done all the updates and visited manuf website...still nothing. Your help will be much appreciated.0

this link is for the drivers for that computer, choose the windows XP os and it brings up all the individual drivers.
She should copy the lot and get them onto a CD and then install the ones she needs.
There is wlan (wireless) and audio on there.0 -
thank you, we downloaded the drivers and saved them in a CD. Then we unzipped the files and clicked on set up...nothing changed. The funny thing is that there are three users on this laptop, two of them have sound, but the main user "owner" hasn't. And none of them has wireless. Any thoughts....??Thanks
Any additional info would be much appreciated. Thank you0
