I suppose the obvious question is, which packages are you trained in? The ones you mention are actually pretty easy and can be taught fairly quickly, with IT you can get away with a little less experience when your training is up to date.0

Not with Server 2003 and Exchange you can't. Look up the phrase "paper MCSE" and you'll find out why the bits of paper are no longer worth much.0 -
True, but I didn't say no experience
Obviously some hands on does absolutely help, but it isn't as essential as it can be in some other industries.

my advice is look for another career not IT.0

It is nowadays if you want a job other than NMW.0 -

im trained (i dont have a qualification) in xp, office, thats it really, ive come across a few jobs which dont require experience in server 2003 or exchange, to be honest we should have had some experience in server 2003, exchange plus other software which we might come acrossNo Links in Signature by site rules - MSE Forum Team 20 -

Do you have any experience in similar areas - any server experience at all? Even any experience in using server software (have you administered backups? Enabled services?) of any variation is a good start. If you can demonstrate any basic Windows skills I'm sure that any IT Technician role would involve some on the job training to bring you up to speed.
My immediate thought was to get in at your local school to see if they have any vacancies. I had no experience in any of what you mentioned (I trained as a UNIX system admin), but wanted to change my career direction and started at a local secondary school.
Perhaps look for some volunteering options to also build up your skillset? I don't know where you're based, but I know of one lad who left sixth form and went to Zenos to get some training under his belt. Something like this might get you the experience you need...0 -

i dont have any experience at all in any server software, ive tried the local schools but ill check again, im in gloucestershire if it helps, ive found a couple of jobs which were posted today on the internet,
i am at a disadvantage but im hoping that when im offered a job that i would then get some experience in server 2003/exchangeNo Links in Signature by site rules - MSE Forum Team 20 -
I would suggest you look in the yellow pages/yell.com for IT companies in your area, and send them all a CV and covering letter? If you cant afford the postage, how about visiting the local IT companies and handing them a cv and covering letter?“Hardware: The parts of a computer system that can be thrown out of the nearest window!”0
