  • Yes with the Panasonic the water always goes in last.

Not in my house, it doesn't ;) Scientifiic reason wins here, over slavishly following instructions :p

  • I've never made cornbread, but found a recipe I'd trust here :)

I agree with what a previos poster says - don;t bother with the BM, just make it in a bowl, and bake in the oven. The recipe above specifically says not to over work the dough, which is what a yeast bread setting on a BM will do :(

I'll add this to the above thread later to keep ideas together.

  • Hi,

There's a bread machine cornbread recipe in the cornbread thread I bumped yesterday - Is Cornbread meant to be gritty?

Its on the front page, along with lots of ideas on how to improve the taste and texture of cornbread.

That said, I think the oven is probably better for cornbread, as its more of a cake than a bread IYSWIM.

This is the recipe I use:

Dead easy and very tasty! Goes great with chillis and stews; I love cornbread as it's so quick and easy to make.
  • Hi all :hello:
thanks for your responses - I got the recipe online and now cant find the exact page it was from; no yeast was required it included conmeal/ flour/milk/ 2 eggs/ sugar/melted butter/ salt/baking powder/Vanilla off the top of my head (it was quite late last night).

I have made cornbread successfully before in the oven just thought it would be nice to try it in the BM. Thanks for the recipe PP I'll try it out today. To make bread / cake from scratch future should I mix all the ingredients before shoving into BM?

  • Hi
    again!
I may have the answer to the fail, prior to makin the corn bread in BM I had made a wholemeal loaf I just turned it upside down and discovered the metal dough mixing thing so this could explain the corn bread failiure lol!

If something didn't contain yeast I wouldn't use the BM as it doesn't need it. Mix then in a tin and cook or use the cake setting at the most. Corn bread usually says mix but do not use a food processor as it'll over work it, I've made it before and just stirred a few times with a fork.

Yea, no mixer would definately not be a good start
One day I might be more organised...........

I'm pretty sure Panasonic did plenty of research into it creating their product.

I don 't think its helpful to advise people ignore manufactures user instructions.
