Debitas-oh joy!

I am really having a week of it. After yesterdays fun and games with bailiffs trying to find my ex,today I find lovely old Capital One are being kind and generous.
Over the last 7 months I have got this card down from just over £1,200 to £370,paying regulaly, over the minimum amount. I paid another £150 last week, taking the bill down to £120-to pay off next month (another debt cleared I thought!)
I have had a really stroppy letter telling me today I am in arrears-eh?-and that they will be selling the debt on to DCA if I default etc etc. They have also said they have cancelled my account, never to be reopened etc ( oh boo hoo-the way I feel at the moment I never want another credit card in my life, even though I am not BR.) That letter is dated 11th July, and details the fact I paid £150 last week.In the same batch of post I get a lovely letter from Debitas with all the usual threats, demanding full and final payment of the remaining £120 immediately (I can't possibly pay it until next month.)It is dated the same day as the Capital One letter!
Do you think they just sensed I had some money and are just pushing it? I can't believe how heavy handed they are being, when I have £1,200 with barclaycard, have been paying a regular but small amount, never a peep out of them!
After reading the very long funny thread about Debitas I am reluctant to ring them! Should I just bide my time and pay them in full in 3 weeks as I'm able? Luckily none of my cards etc have a phone number for me as my landline was taken a long time ago when my ex defaulted payment and lied to me about it.
Tomorrow is always fresh, with no mistakes in it!

  • Thats more than a bit annoying, and no doubt they will start adding charges:rolleyes:

You could try reasoning with them but you already know the likelyhood of succsess, you could always send a CCA to them, putting the acount into dispute which would buy you time and in theory prevent them taking any action/adding any charges, just a thought
Thats it, i am done, Blind-as-a-Bat has left the forum, for good this time, there is no way I can recover this account, as the password was random, and not recorded, and the email used no longer exits, nor can be recovered to recover the account, goodbye all …………. :(

If you have proof you have done nothing wrong report them, pay off the amount you do still owe and tell them to stick their charges where the sun don't shine.

Well I am sort of eating my words here,as I have jut spoken to a lady at Debitas and she was really helpful and agreed totally to my payment proposal-which is what I had intended doing before this went belly-up. I also spoke to Capital one who admitted that their letter should state 'has been passed on to a DCA' not will be if you don't contact us-they actually pased the debt over the day they recieved my £150 which was more than half the amount owed. I haven't had any charges etc added and won't if I stick to my schedule-which I will!- so panic over. And I am looking forward to having paid off yet another debt:j

    Lets hope it's good!
What I can't understand is how quickly some people pass a debt on and how laid back some are. I am still owing around £1,200 to Barclaycard and I missed a couple of payments earlier in the year when I first lost my job, marriage broke up etc-not even a slapped wrist from them. I have only been paying the minimum off that debt, once this capital one is paid off I can increase my payment to barclaycard.
If I had my way,I would never have got my first credit card-ironically barclaycard-back in the 80's. I never had any problems until I met my current husband who I now realise is clueless with money. He would ask me to put things on a card and never pay it back. My daughter has stated she never wants a credit card after seeing me struggle-if my struggles lead to my kids not making the same mistakes,it will not have been in vain!
