You should be able to find it in the cake section at supermarkets, it's usually in small bottles along with the food colourings and flavorings, but I would think that the chemist's stuff is probably cheaper overall although you'll probably have to buy a bigger bottle. I've used both kinds in icing and there's no difference and I haven't killed anyone yet (I hope lol) :)

I'm pretty sure it is the same thing but you could possibly ring a local cake make person and ask.

    hi ginger
the one you say is with the colourings, im sure reads 'glycerin flavour'?? is this what you mean. ive seen this in my asda, but wasnt sure this makes the icing softer. also looks watery,as compared to the glycerin i see in boots for medicine. hellllppppp lol

Although I don't do cake decorating now I always used the bp stuff. In fact when I started I couldn't get any in supermarkets, fondant icing was quite new here, and no ready made unless I went direct to the manufacturer for 5kg at a time.

Another tip for using glycerin is to put a teaspoonful in a swiss roll mix. It stops it cracking when you roll it and you can leave it to go cold before rolling.
