advice needed. i want a baby but I have a temporary job

Hi there

just thought i would ask if anyone knows where I stand I have been working on temporary full time jobs now for the past 18 months. My husband and I would like to start a family. I am 30 in January and have no children.

We have been holding off becuase i wanted to get a permanent job where I would be entitled to maternity leave.

anyone got any advice?

what kind of benefits are you entitled to? My husband is in a permanent full time job.

    hi. read about maternity allowance. it's 90% of your average wage for the 13 highest paid weeks in the 'test period' up to max £106 per week. you get it for 26 weeks from the benefits agency if you can't get SMP. you have to have earned at least £30 per week for 26 weeks out of the 66 weeks before baby is due. i am currently getting £77 per week, i had never heard of MA until spendless on this site told me about it. thanks again spendless :-)

    MA is mentioned in the leaflet babies and children, i think it's called BC1.

    If you have been working for the same agency all that time, you should be entitled to maternity pay from them, if not you will certainly get maternity allowance.
