Loan dishonoured - Bailiffs ?

Hello all I was wondering if anyone could offer me any advice on the following situation:

My friend houseshares a rented property with a couple of other people
One of these people has oustanding loans/debts which they havent been great at paying back.. They recently received a letter stating that they have dishonoured the debt and need to speak to a Debt Investigation Officer

Now, this isnt something anyone else in the house wants to be involved with, its no-one elses business apart from the individual concerned

The thing that is worrying me though is can this have any implications on anyone else in the house ? I vaguely remember watching a bailiff programme where they took all possessions from a home regardless of who they belonged to, is that right ?

I basically just want to know if anyone can offer any advice or experience as to what the next steps are if they cannot meet the debt company requirements, and what implications there are for everyone in the house ? i.e. associated bad credit / bailiffs etc etc

Thankyou in advance !

Baliffs can't be instructed until the creditor has gone to court to get a CCJ and then the debtor has not kept to the orders of the judge. Only then can the creditor apply for an enforcement order.

Has it got this far yet?
If the debtor has no assets its unlikely a baliff will be instructed.

In any event, baliffs can only take the goods belonging to the debtor and not other people in the house.

There should be no effect on the other peoples' credit files as long as they have no joint accounts with the debtor.

Clapton - Thankyou for the response

No it hasnt gone that far yet and hopefully wont

"In any event, baliffs can only take the goods belonging to the debtor and not other people in the house. " - Is there anything complicated about this i.e. Would the other people have to prove what they own etc as i guess in theory the debtor could just none of it belongs to them ?
