I wanna buy a clarinet

My niece has been loaning one from her school.
Thought it would be nice to buy her one for September.
However, they seem really pricey.
Cheapest on ebay is about £60.
Any suggestions?

If you have a music shop near by its worth calling in to see them. They normally have secondhand clarinets and they understand the gradings suited to the level of the player. You also have peace of mind the clarinet will be in good playing order.

I agree with Rikki, go to a local music shop and see if they've got any second-hand or ex-rental clarinets for sale. That way you can be reasonably sure that the instrument is in a decent condition as it will probably have been serviced before the sale. Ebay is ok if you know what you're buying and can factor in the cost of any repairs/new parts etc, but if you don't know much about clarinets you could end up buying a real duff that's barely playable and will cost silly money to get up to standard. Tbh, it's not about buying the cheapest, it's about buying something that's suitable for your niece's level. Really really cheap clarinets generally aren't much good for anyone beyond beginner level.
Or, if you can get in touch with the teacher they may know of a student or someone who's selling their instrument - it might be useful to do that anyway just to make sure that you're buying the right kind of instrument0 -
