Can we share our Bank account opening experiences please, what bank gave you a basic account after your bankruptcy? What questions did they ask? Can you open a basic bank account before the bankruptcy as long as there is a zero balance with no credit (or up to £500) a cash point card and cheque book?

The Co-op cashminder will accept bankrupts. That comes with a Visa Electron card. It does take a few weeks to open though.0

you can view a PDF document from the FSA about bank accounts on the Payplan website here:

That has a list of banks and which ones take bankrupts.
Good Luck

i went with the co op as they were recommended to me but they have been a bit of a nightmare for me. The account took 11 weeks to open (their fault, 'losing' documents 3 times), plus the card is always getting refused in shops for some reason. My parents are also in the co op and this has happened to them too! BUT - you do get a visa electron card which is very useful.
I meant to add this before. I found it difficult to get the docs to open the account as I was basically lodging in a room of a house where there were no bills in my name at all, though they finally accepted the landlords council tax bill with a letter.
Now they won't even give me their most basic savings account, prob becasue my wages are still going into my mother's account (ie nothing regular going in at the moment - this relates to numerous !!!!-ups with my employer who is apparently unable to count, read, write...).
It is defo worth having for the card though, handy for the net and so on.0
