I wanna learn to sketch/draw (new hobby)

I have now got my weekends back again after working them for the last few years and have decided to take up drawing as a hobby.

I have done a few bits and peices in the last few days and you can at least tell whatthe sketches are of.

Any tips regarding basic materials, books etc gratefully received.
Never put off till tomorrow what you can do today!
Cos if you do it today and like it...You can do it again tomorrow.. :p

Your local library should have loads of books on drawing and sketching.
I let my mind wander and it never came back!

Thanks for that, i am aware of these institutions, and, indeed have ventured into one for this very reason only to be confronted with row upon row of tomes about sketching, drawing, styles, techniques, you name it!!

I was more looking for personal recommendations and experiences that might help point me in the right direction as to how best to start. if that is a book then great.

    BTW

i have pencils, paper, eraser and a sharpener.

No need for sarcasm, I was trying to be helpful.

Lots of people never even think to enter a library and are surprised at the range of books available.
