Car Won't Start

Options
Help! My car isn't starting! The starter motor is chugging strongly and I have enough fuel yet it won't go. I tried push starting it but to no avail.

I haven't noticed anything different in the car except when I put the key up a notch (so all lights on dashboard light up), there's a 'Code' sign flashing in amber. The car has had another stereo fitted but that was ages ago, it doesn't have an immobiliser or power steering so I dont know why this is happening.

Please help!

What car is it? 'Code' usually means a problem with an immobiliser or key transponder.

I must admit I don't know much about immobilisers on Puntos, but there seems to be an issue with red and blue keys between late 1995 and 2000, ie you should have a red key in case something goes wrong with the system. Don't know if yours falls into this category. See if this Punto forum helps:

  • I have a Fiat Marea, it came with three keys - 2 blue and one brown. After the code light comes on you can drive it once and then it will only start if you use the brown key - well, that's what the manual says anyway.

Fiat Puntos (around that age (n Reg) to my memory) have a fuel cut off switch located somewhere around the front passenger seat (not sure where). If I remember correctly the cut off switch is designed to cut fuel in the event of impact, however; if the passenger seat is pulled forward or backward quickly (where it bangs) it can activate the cut off switch accidently....I would assume the switch is located somewhere under the passenger seat or footwell...its just a matter of locating it I'd assume.

I maybe totally incorrect mind :)
