Hi everyone
Am new here and have a few questions ?
I have debs of £35.000 and have been with the cccs who have advised me to go for bankruptcy. I was renting a place and a friend of mine said i could live at his as he works away a lot and i would be doing him a favor looking after the house. I pay the bills and give him some money for rent. will this be classed as an interest to his property by the OR and also we have nothing in writing -- how do i stand and i really dont want to drop him in it as he has been a life saver to me and my son. :A
Any advice please
Thanks

Welcome to the board! No, renting from your friend would not mean you have any interest in his house. Can you get him to give you a rental agreement so the OR can see you are paying him rent? It wouldn't drop him in anything! If you do decide BR is the best option, why don't you post up all your income and expenditure so people on here can give you some advice.

I think you should be ok just to put your friend as your Landlord on you BR forms.
I rent privately and had to put down the name and address of my landlord but the OR has not asked me to provide my rental agreement.:cheesy: K2nga :cheesy:

Hi Purp,
No It's not as bad as you imagine. It's a bit like when you were a kid and went to the top board at the swimming baths made you feel sh!! scared but after you'd jumped wondered what all the fuss was about.
Hope all goes well,

I am in a similar situation, no rental agreement on where I am living. The CAB said to class myself as a "lodger" not as a tenant. It goes under 8.3, describe the arrangement, and in the final column where it says "is there a written agreement?" put "No - lodgings". In effect you do have some interest in the property - not necessarily a direct financial one - as you live there.
The OR wrote to the property owner and asked a few questions - confirm details, rent, whether written agreement or not, were there any arrears, was I under notice to leave. He responded appropriately and that was the end of it.
All the best.Bankrupt 11th June 2008

You can pick up a tenancy agreement from anywhere - WH Smiths etc, or pop onto the houses board as they post them there quite regularly for a cut/paste/amend/print/free job! Or buy a rent book from most good stationers.
If you put down on your forms you are renting, the OR will want to see a tenancy agreement or rent book.0 -
We are renting, but don't have a rental agreement/contract (we did at the very start, but had to give it back to the landlord for him to sign his bit and he then lost it), and I told the OR that - I just gave him the phone number/address of the landlord and he wrote to him to ask how much rent we were paying/arrears etc etc and he wrote back and answered the questions. Haven't had anymore than that and we are still here 11 months later, so I'm guessing it wasn't a problem - my landlord wouldn't have sent a contract, as he is pigging useless so don't worry about it - if you don't mind/your friend doesn't mind having to confirm via letter the details you don't nec. need a contract.Do not feed the trolls please.0
