I just bought one full price a few days ago

Still, it's a great product (Owl) and well worth the full cost.0 -
How does Owl work, do you have to plug it into something?0

You clip it onto cables at your meter and it tells you consumption for the whole house.Upforabargain2008 wrote: »How does Owl work, do you have to plug it into something?0 -
You just clip the transmitter around the wire from or to your meter and put the receiver anywhere convenient in the house for you to see. It gives an instant readout of your electricity consumption.Upforabargain2008 wrote: »How does Owl work, do you have to plug it into something?
Then you panic as the numbers go up and down as you switch things on and off, and the bill payer becomes a paranoid neurotic dictator of sorts.;)

Ditto (On both points!). There are some people of IMO suspect thinking that suggest these monitors are 'gimmicky' and not worth the money (I exprienced just such an opinion on the Gas & Elec Board yesterday  ). ANY 'gadget' that gets you to think about using energy more efficiently and therefore spend less HAS to be useful IMO. The OWL cost me £35 delivered from John Lewis and I genuinely believe it will help us as a family save way more than its cost in its first year. Time will tell.Call me Carmine....
HAVE YOU SEEN QUENTIN'S CASHBACK CARD??0 -
All well and good...............but how much electricity do they "suck" out of the cable............Political?....I dont do Political....well,not much!0

None they are battery powered.
Measures the magnetic effect that the current flowing in the wire creates, uses this to calculate watts or cost,as Watts = Volts x Amps
They were £34.95 at Comet, I was waiting for them to be reduced. :beer:ac's lovechild0 -
Make sure you know your energy cost per unit though as you'll need it (we had to work ours out manually).
One great thing is it proved that my plasma and LCD screens, as well as my PC, use virtually nothing when in sleep mode - finally settled that argument!!0
