Child benefit went into the wrong account.

Hi there.
I have a problem which is that although I changed the account details online for my child benefit to be paid into, they still paid it into the old account for some reason. The money went into my old Lloyds TSB account which I had prior to bankruptcy. The OR said that they were not interested in the account, but it has been frozen anyway so I cannot now transfer that money through an online transfer. The account will let me set up the transfer, but the money does not leave the account. Any ideas on how i can get it out, or will it be returned to me at a later date because it went in after my bankruptcy date? Seems a bit strange that they allowed the money to be paid in when the account had been frozen.

Hi Penny, I'm in exactly the same position. Basically your OR needs to fax Llyods TSB saying they have no interest in the money, and that they should release it to you. Then you need to go into the branch with proof of ID and get the funds.
Wish it had been that easy for me - unfortunately Nationwide 'moved' it to another account which cannot normally be accessed without a card (which is in little pieces in the OR's bin  ) so I am having LOADS of hassle!

You will be able to get it back PL as niether them or the OR can deny you it Do as Merry says, but i will add the staff at the TSB are, or at least where when i went BR, clueless what to do when your BR so expect it to be a bit troublesome getting them to do what they should:rolleyes:Thats it, i am done, Blind-as-a-Bat has left the forum, for good this time, there is no way I can recover this account, as the password was random, and not recorded, and the email used no longer exits, nor can be recovered to recover the account, goodbye all ………….

Hi Merry and b-a-a-b
Thanks very much for the advice! Sorry to hear that you're having trouble with getting your money back Merry. Life sucks sometimes .
I'll try what you said. Was hoping that I wouldn't have to contact OR (scary prospect cos the chap that interviewed me put me through hell!) but guess I'll just have to bite the bullet. I think I'll try emailing them first cos I really am a bit of a wimp!
They answered questions that my OH had through email, so its worth a try.
I'll let you know if/when I have any success.
Thanks again!
Kind regards,

Hi again
I emailed my case officer at the OR's over the weekend and received a reply this morning saying that if I had a contact name and fax number then they could re-contact Lloyds TSB and ask the them to release the funds. I didn't have a contact name, but emailed back the address for my branch, and the fax number that I found on the website.
Have just received a reply saying that the OR's office have written to Lloyds TSB again, and sent a fax to the number I emailed them, asking them to release the money to me.
So, fingers crossed, I may be able to access the money before the school summer holidays begin. I suppose the buck stops with Lloyds TSB now though!

Hi!
Just to update, I set up a payment to transfer the child benefit money into my account yesterday in the hope that it would be quicker and easier than going into the branch. At the time of setting it up there was still no sign of LLoyds TSB letting me have the money. However, logged in just now and saw that the amount has gone through as a transfer to my new co-op account today! :j
Hopefully will receive the money by Monday of next week, just in time for our holiday.

If you have a post office account I've been told that not affected by BR. As long as it a benefits one.
If that helps anyone.BSC No: 186 There is always light at the end of the tunnel. Unless someone's nicked the candle !
