Co-op disappointing

Got the cashminder up and running after BR no problem, however had had co-op basic current account for a couple of months previous with NO overdraft facility. OR said on phone he had no interest in that account at all so I could keep using it, however they had informed the Co-op of the BR. Had hopes of still having a card with embossed numbers that didn't make me look like a 17-year-old-student and that I wouldn't have to keep well hidden at work. So a bit disappointed to get a letter this morning saying that it "wasn't policy" to allow that sort of account "in my circumstances".
Any one else managed to hang on to a normal account after BR? If so, what arguments worked? Can't see the problem if OR happy and no chance of overdraft.

What type of card comes with that account? Is it like a switch card?BSCno.87The only stupid question is an unasked oneLoving life as a Kernow Hippy0

Yup - it was a Visa debit. Wouldn't have bothered cutting it up and sending it to the OR if I'd known he wasn't bothered. Suppose I had to though :cool:0

That is why then. Banks will not let you have that sort of card as it in essence guarantees your payment even if you have no money in the account.BSCno.87The only stupid question is an unasked oneLoving life as a Kernow Hippy0

I'm just glad the Co Op will let me have a card I can pay for food on if cash machine broken at the weekend. So I'm just happy to be able to keep a cashminder account.BSC No: 186 There is always light at the end of the tunnel. Unless someone's nicked the candle !

Of course you're right. Should have thought of that.
I might have used it to head to Acapulco
Can't find an icon for grudging and sullen acceptance.
At least the cash plus card on its way has sticky-up numbers...
Off to sit in my room with curtains closed and pull wings of flies while listening to Marilyn Manson.

Only Acapulco? I would have gone to Vegas and blown the lot at the tables

Only a few months to go though. Then go to Yorkshire Bank and get a nice sticky up numbers Maestro.0

Steady tiger. They can give you 15 years (of payments) for that kind of thinking.
What's most annoying is that OR said they hadn't meant to tell Co-op anyway (clerical error on their part) so they would never have known and in theory, at least, I wouldn't have needed cashminder. Of COURSE I had NO intention of abusing Visa Debit if I'd held on to it, but the thrill of a small theoretical victory would have been sweet...

The Co-op would have found out anyway. The banks keep an eye on the insolvency website to see who has gone BR and they would have frozen it any way.BSCno.87The only stupid question is an unasked oneLoving life as a Kernow Hippy0
