What do you think is a good starter dish for someone just wanting to see if they like Chinese food?

Find a chinese restaurant that does a lunchtime buffet and treat yourself!
I went to one near me last Sunday - £10, and there was a choice of about 10 or 12 different starters and main courses with banana fritters for afters.
You could go up as many times as you liked and try whatever you fancied.
Great for a beginner!

I don't like sweet sauces covering everything. Some nice crispy veg that is fresh.:beer:0 -

there weren't sweet sauces covering everything - the veg dish was sauceless, as was the lemon chicken, the wan tons (sp?) and the sesame toast. Other dishes had sauces, but not necessarily sweet - some quite piqant. rice and noodles were also plain.
give it a try and it was only a tenner!2010 MFW Challenge No. 112 Mortgage paid in full 27/08/10 I was MF!!!

how about (trying to remember an old recipe here)
Honeyed pork stir fry? if you dont want the meat just dont add it:
1tsp sesame oil
2 garlic cloves sliced
400g sliced pork
1tbsp honey
4tbsp soy sauce
2.5cm root ginger sliced into matchsticks
100g green beans/mangetout/sugar snap peas (whatever is the cheapest) sliced into thin sticks
2 med carrots sliced into matchsticks
100g spinach/baby spinach (shame, last week this was 50p a bag in tesco)
spring onions, shredded
noodles
2tbsp lemon juice or rice vinegar (i always used lemon juice and it was really nice)
add oil to a wok or large frying pan
when heated add garlic and pork, stir fry over a high heat for 4 minutes, then add honey, ginger and soy sauce and stir fry for another 2 mins
add veggies and toss together
roughly cut the noodles and add them along with the rice vinegar or lemon juice
i used to make this a lot, but my oh doesnt like it so havent cooked it for about 18 months
the longest part is the preparation- the cooking itself takes 10-15 mins and it is totally yummy- makes the kitchen smell lovely2011- new year, new start.

starter dish....mmmmm how about some deep fried prawns/pork pieces with a nice chilli dip or something....
marrinate some prawns in a mixture of half a minature bottle of brandy, teaspoon of salt, mix together an egg and a tablespoon of cornflour and add this to the dish with the prawns/pork, mix well and make sure all the pieces are covered in the mixture and leave to marinate for 15/20mins. heat up some oil in pan and then roll each prawn/pork piece in some plain flour and deep fry for a couple of minutes, until the batter is a lovely golden colour!
place on some kitchen roll to absorb the excess grease, dip and enjoy!!!
In the week, I did pieces of chopped up pork belly this way, did some stir fried veg, peppers/onions/mushrooms added the cooked pork pieces to the stir fry at the end and then mixed through a home made sweet n sour sauce. If you don't like sweet sauces, you could try just having the pieces with some stirfry as main course!!Marriages are made in heaven, but then again so is thunder and lightning!!!.....getting divorced lol :j
