    Hi Kirsty

There's lots of things to consider when you're looking for Saturday work.

Do you live in a town or a village?

Are you prepared to walk into places and ask if they have any work available?

Have you thought about putting a CV together?

Will a job interfere with your studies?

Will you need to get public transport?

Tell us a little bit more about yourself and maybe we can help
  • You could go into your nearest town one Saturday and pop into some shops to ask. I think the majority have a minimum age of 16 though. At 14 have you thought about a paper round? You could pop into your local newsagents to ask. Or maybe your local hairdressers, you could sweep up and make tea! Anyway, let us know how you get on as my son is nearly 14 and making noises about getting a Saturday job.

While you are 14, you can work a maximum of 5 hours on a Saturday.

Employers will have to contact your Education Department to get a permit to employ you. This added bureaucracy may be why employers are not keen on employing under 16-y-o children. Then again, they don’t have to pay the national minimum wage.
