Job Seekers Allowance - Want 6 mths bank statements

Hi, payment of Contibution-based JSA is based on the amount of National Insurance(NI) contributions you paid in the 2 full tax years prior to your date of claim i.e in your case if you claimed JSA in March 2008 or later your Cont-based JSA is dependent upon your NI record from 6/4/05 to 5/4/07. If you were working full time on a PAYE basis during the whole of that period you will be entitled to Cont-based JSA for 182 days, after which, if you are still unemployed, you will need to claim Income-based JSA. If unemployed everyone is entitled to claim Cont-based JSA, but as Income-based JSA is a means tested benefit (i.e. based on income/savings etc) not everyone will need to or want to claim it. It sounds as if you are have claimed both benefits. If you think you will be entitled to Cont-based JSA you can contact the Jobcentre and tell them that you don't want to claim Income-based JSA (they may ask you to put this in writing and asking you to withdraw your claim for Income-based JSA), then there will be no need to provide your Bank statemnts. If you are unsure if you are entitled to Cont-based JSA you can ask the Jobcentre to find you and let you know.0

I'm about to leave my job and don't have a bank account so what will happen if I want to claim JSA? Would they not pay if I don't have a bank a/c or statements?0

FWIW, when I recently needed back statements from Barclays, I rang Customer Services, told them the dates I needed (I wanted the last five years), and they were sent out the next day, with no charges. I had them in 48 hours.

They would need to see some proof of earnings, where were your wages paid into?Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE Forum Team0 -
How about you look for a job? IF it is going to take 4-6 weeks to get your statements, why not concentrate on getting a job? Although I guess this is what you must be already doing because you are expecting to claim backdated JOB SEEKERS allowance.0
