pasta bake recipe anyone?

HI

I am looking for a recipe that is similar to the jar ..... Yucky sweet reddish stuff that my young relatives love.

last time here, I did a spag bol, knowing they liked this..BUT disaster followed as it turns out they get thiers with the help of Dolmio or Ragu or something. Not the HM stuff I offered them!!

Am loathe to buy something that I can make easily and more healthy.

Mah
any ideas how to make spag bol more like the 'real' stuff and not HM would be appreciated too !!! How ungrateful littles uns can be!!!!

I must admit, I would like the answer to this as well. The nearest I have got to the pasta bake is Campbells tomato soup and cream cheese mixed together. The recipe is on the can of soup. I would like to be able to make it from scratch though.

my daughter (who doesn't usually cook at all!) recently invented this ...

saute some peeled & chopped onion in oil till transparent, add 1-2 cloves chopped garlic & fry for a couple of minutes, add 2 tins tomatoes chopped up, 2-4 tablespoons tomato puree, some diced peppers, herbs of choice & salt & pepper, bring to boil, cover & simmer for 15-20 minutes

pour over pasta of choice in a baking dish

cover with foil & bake at 180 for about 35 - 40 minutes, check occasionally to make sure all pasta is submerged so it cooks evenly (you can add a little water if it looks too dry)

if you like add olives &/or a chopped up smoked pork sausage near the end of the cooking

Chop onions and fry in a little oil, add mince and fry until brown, add chopped tinned tomatoes, salt, pepper and herbs to taste, let simmer until sauce is cooked.

Meanwhile make a cheesy sauce by heating a pint of milk, leave a couple of tbsp milk out and mix it in a bowl with a couple of tbsps of cornflour. When milk is hot add the leftout milk and cornflour mix, stir on a low fire until it thickens. Add grated cheese (and if you like, some nutmeg, it makes the boring-est cheese sauce taste lovely!).

Mix tomato sauce and cheese sauce, it should have the sloppy texture and pinkish colour of the jar of sauce, but a much better taste!

Mix with cooked macaroni of whatever shape, put in baking casserole, cover with grated cheese and bake until cheese bubbles and becomes golden on top.

    Enjoy!

Edited as I forgot to put the mince hehe
Finally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).
