buying in bulk for scout camp....help!

Hi all, is anyone about yet?
Ive gotta go to Mr T in an hour to get the shopping for scout camp (in the rain, great!). I need 60 pints milk, 200 rolls, etc. My neighbour has just said that they wont let you buy in bulk this way...anyone know if this is true?
Thanks XXXX

    I've been Money Tipped!
I dont think they can stop you unless there is another 'panic' buy episode. As there is no risk of them running out of staple items at the moment you should be fine.

I got stopped the other day from buying 15 packets of chocolate chips as they do not allow bulk buying.

If they ask you if you have cleared the shelf say no even if you have. With that much I would think about going round a few times to be on the safe side.
It does depend on the SA.

thanks, I think I'll mention it to the customer service lady on the way in. Cant get it delivered cos picking up the van first, then loading the food, then the van is being driven straight there.
Thanks for all your advice! XXX

As a bit of a thankyou, might be a good idea to get the scouts to do a 'charity bag-packing' day for the customers at your local Mr T - that way they would also get to know you all and you should have no problems in the future.

you could ring them and explain - i'd also take along my scout credentials - you never know - you might blag a discount as well!

When i've needed several hundred bread rolls or whatever for charity barbecues I'd ordered a couple of days in advance and they keep them ready for you all packed up in the bakery. This makes life easier too.
  • Depending where your camp is, you could get it delivered there. W've done that for 60 people at a camp, wasn't a problem. HTH:D

well done for having a camp with 60 people! We've only got about 14 regulars in our group (up from 3 when we took over)

Just can't get the numbers in scouts - explorers however is absolutely packed.

Can't you get the food where you're going? When we go to wales etc there are plenty of places to buy food and I generally find it's cheaper too - 60pints of milk woahhhh, won't that be off by the time you get to your destination???

Most shops don't deliver to scout sites.

    Hiya,
we didn't go far - to Thriftwood. Id reccomend it, it was great. I phoned Tesco and they were ok, apparently you can only put 6 of an item thru the tills normally. We put the milk in coolboxes and it was fine.
We have a family camp - beavers, cubs, scouts, explorers, mums, dads, grandparents, brothers, sisters - all welcome. We had 93 people so it was quite big!
    Thanks for everyones advice XXXX
