Your description of how you feel suggests you share the same personality traits of the people you despise so much, the only difference between you and them was they bought and you didn't.
I'd have to agree with Treadmill, I'm only interested in how it all affects me and my family. Selfish I know, but I'd rather that, than be eaten up with hatred for those who achieved something whether by luck or judgment, I simply don't have the time and energy to expend on that.
Hope for the best.....Plan for the worst!

Or should it be pride comes before the crash?

Does anyone else get a warm feeling every month and feel a little glee at certain users of this forum that their 'perceived' wealth is diminishing every month. That their get rich quick scheme is put into reverse gear?

I remember 6-7 months back BTL Bois would trounce anyone talking about a crash.. but now we are in full swing and it doesn't look like its going to stop anytime soon. I can ignore the biased and illogical reasons why houses will recover short term... as I have one thing they dont.... evidence.

So I dedicate this to you Pickles and Mr Broderick... You provide me with a warm fussy feeling every month..

    Ahhh :)

Often people who focus on others so much do it as a distraction to avoid facing 'themselves'.

I wouldn't wish people who are trying to further themselves or make extra money any downfall at all, why would I?

    No

I don't gain pleasure from other people's misfortune.

  • Its each to their own, you can give your opinion but why gloat when they don't take your view and it goes wrong for them, just be pleased you made the right decision for you and don't then 'laugh' at people for making different choices than you.

In my opinion it is quite arrogant and egotisitical to think everyone should think like you and if they don't if things go wrong they deserve everything they get?

Neas, i get great satisfaction in knowing house prices are coming down and hopefully with that at some point they will become more affordable and don't have to saddle up with a lifetime of unamangeable debt, right now affordability is a bigger issue than it ever has been.

I however do not get any warm, smug, satisfaction of people struggling. Not everyone who owns a house is gloating blah blah mewing blah. A great number of people are going to suffer. Probably myself included.

I'm a FTB with my gf looking to buy early next year..house price falls could well continue for years i accept this loss. My brother 'owns' 3 houses with his wife, 2rented out and one is their home obviously. We have friends who have bought in Nov 07 and Mar 07. The FTBs in March are on an interest only mortgage, very much ignoring the news and carrying on as always, they can't do anything about falling house prices or availability of credit, so they just get on and try to prepare.

Everyone of us will face challenges in the coming years if all this doom and gloom oes happen and recession comes with job losses, some will be more prepared than others and i hope that all my friends and family make it through without too much of a struggle.

That's a little unfair on Brodders because he isn't a BTLer, and more of a wind up than a HPI VI.

Personally I don't gloat over other people's misfortune, especially when the loss of money will cause much stress. What does wind me up though is people so blinkered that they take certain things for granted, i.e. house prices will only ever go up.

There are a lot of people very happy to see house prices rise and very happy to see 'poor' FTBers priced out of the market. Some people liked to look down on those 'poor' FTBers like they were a poorer breed. Those same people would argue house prices will only ever increase without realising that the only reason they will continue to increase is if those 'poor' FTBers keep on buying, and allowing those people up the ladder to realise their gains. Ultimately a big transference of wealth from younger generation to older.

Its those people I have no sympathy for and I crack a little smile when I come into contact with them.

... just be pleased you made the right decision for you and don't then 'laugh' at people for making different choices than you.

Are we sure that Madame DeNeas actually made a decision to wait for the crash, based on her many years of strategic financial management experience, or did she simply have the choice not to buy a house, forced on her by economic reasons?

I imagine Madame DeNeas sat with her knitting bag at the foot of a Financial Guillotine, jeering at not only the BTL people who are being ruined but also the innocent families who simply wanted to provide a stable and secure home for their children.

Like the French Revolution, many more innocents will be sent to the Guillotine than the 'aristocratic' BTLers that Madame DeNeas despises. Then again, perhaps Madame DeNeas just despises all home owners, just as Madame DeFarge and The Vengeance came to despise all citizens who were not like them.

Hopefully Madame DeNeas will come to the same end as her To2C counterparts.

(I'm going with a French theme with my posts today, did anyone notice?) :)

I think the point Neas is trying to make is that some posters on here basked in there increasing wealth without ANY consideration for many of there fellow Britons who couldnt even afford a roof over there heads, ..the most basic need, ... So in that sence it isnt suprising some will feel a sence of Schadenfreude I guess

    Thought it was German?

neas was a latecomer to the crash scene and came on here.....what....... 3 months ago wanting to know whether to buy or not, was convinced it was a bad idea and became a newly born crash artist.
