Loan and Credit report

Ok I'm new here and am after a bit of solid advice.

Situation is that in late 2005 I recieved a loan from my previous bank for about 6k and kept up payments for 6 months. Circumstances changed, as they often do, and I was unable to make the repayments for some 12 months. Thankfully circumstances then changed again for the better and I have been repaying this now for the last 13 months. I recently ordered myself a credit report from all three agencies and to my surprise it lists me as not ever having had the loan in the first place, there are no records of payment history for the last 13 months or indeed any history for the months that I was unable to make the payments... no CCJ's nothing....

I'm very confused, I have since left this bank as they refused to give me a current account until this outstanding debt was cleared, I felt this unfair and this was the main reason for ordering the credit reports. I have now opened up a current account plus with a different bank with absolutely no problems whatsoever, including cheque book switch credit card etc...

So basically what I am asking is should I continue to keep up these repayments with no record of the loan on my credit file in the first place??:confused:

Any advice greatly appreciated...

Thanks,

Yes I'd continue paying as the bank WILL come after you for the debt; but as far as the CRAs are concerned, I won’t tell them if you don't... :)

  • When i was unable to make the repayments last time they threatened the usual, but i was not in the position to do anything about it, so basically told the bank to do one and nothing came of it... when I started repaying the loan last year it was actually me that contacted the bank to honour the agreement not the other way round, I feel this may have been a mistake!

I mean i have no problem honouring the agreement, as I did get the money, although I was also thinking that if i stopped the payments :p and they came after me, which i have no doubt they would, the loan would be voidable due to the fact that they clearly haven't gone through the correct processes in the loan agreement

This is one for your conscience?

Financial business do not have to register payment profiles with credit reference agencies and it may be that this is such a case?

The chances are that this loan was written off in the banks accounts probably late 2006 and any money you are paying is going into a general recoveries account?

You could stop paying and see if they contacted you - if they do not then it is probably written off and forgotten.

As I said, you borrowed the money but this looks like one for your conscience?
